Description
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued a Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) for aviation research, valid through December 4, 2034. This BAA supports research interests from the William J. Hughes Technical Center for Advanced Aerospace, Aviation Research Division, located in Atlantic City, NJ, and other FAA organizations. The research areas encompass airport pavements, airport safety, and software and systems. Specific topics include the design and implementation of sensor systems for monitoring concrete damage, developing design models for asphalt overlay reflective cracking, establishing rational overload criteria for airport pavements, and enhancing airport pavement layer backcalculation software. Additionally, the BAA seeks research into advanced flight controls, automation for safety, and methods for certifying these systems to reduce accidents. It also covers research into integrated flight and propulsion control for rotorcraft and complex digital systems assurance. The FAA encourages submissions from industry, educational institutions, and small businesses. White papers and proposals will be assessed based on scientific and technical merit, relevance to the FAA's mission, and funding availability. The BAA is open for submissions at any time until its expiration.
