Description
The U.S. Army's Program Manager for Protection and Integration is seeking public comments on Draft 2.1 of MIL-DTL-32812, a proposed military detail specification for USB-C Military (USB-CM) cables and connectors. The government-owned design covers ruggedized, environmentally resistant USB Type-C cable and connector assemblies for terrestrial, maritime, air, and space applications, supporting specified power and data rates. The draft addresses connector configurations, materials, interchangeability, USB compliance, qualification and quality systems, manufacturing, packaging, and extensive environmental and electrical testing. Requirements include durability, corrosion resistance, temperature shock, vibration, humidity, immersion, dust, sand, salt fog, rain, freezing rain, electromagnetic compatibility, ozone, fluids, and mechanical performance. Public comments should address connector design, manufacturability, integration into vendor products, cost, materials, durability, limitations of use, and tradeoffs involving cost, data rate, design, testing, and power levels. This is an RFI only and does not request quotations, proposals, or bids.
