Description
This Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) invites applications for investigator-initiated mid-phase clinical trials focused on natural products such as botanicals, dietary supplements, and probiotics. The trials should have a strong scientific basis and compelling preliminary data demonstrating bioavailability and impact on target engagement, unless specific criteria for waiver are met. Proposed trials should aim to determine optimal dosage or formulation, or identify patient phenotypes that respond to the natural product, to inform future efficacy trials. Applications must be hypothesis-driven, milestone-driven, and align with the research priorities of the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH). Efficacy or effectiveness trials, and trials for cancer treatment or prevention, are not supported under this NOFO. Various entities are eligible to apply, including state governments, non-profits, small businesses, public and private institutions of higher education, and federally recognized Native American tribal governments. However, non-domestic (non-U.S.) entities and non-domestic components of U.S. organizations are not eligible. The funding instrument is a grant, with an estimated total program funding of $350,000.
