The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) is offering the Emerging Investigator Award (EIA) to support experienced Principal Investigators (PIs) who have a strong track record in heart, lung, blood, and sleep (HLBS) research. This award aims to foster scientific productivity and innovation by providing long-term, flexible funding for a research program, rather than specific projects. The EIA is intended to be the primary funding source for the PI's research for up to seven years, allowing for greater risk-taking and pursuit of ambitious research goals within the NHLBI's mission. Eligibility for this grant extends to various institutions, including Native Hawaiian and Native American Serving Institutions, Asian American Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institutions (AANAPISISs), eligible Federal Government agencies, faith-based or community-based organizations, Hispanic-serving Institutions, Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Indian/Native American Tribal Governments (Other than Federally Recognized), Regional Organizations, Tribally Controlled Colleges and Universities (TCCUs), and U.S. Territories or Possessions. Non-U.S. entities and non-domestic components of U.S. organizations are not eligible to apply, though foreign components of U.S. organizations are permitted.
