This Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) supports exploratory research leading to proof of concept for the development of new technologies relevant to the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) mission. Projects should entail a high degree of risk and/or novelty, and have a high future potential impact in biomedical research. Eligibility is extended to various organizations, including Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian Serving Institutions, Asian American Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institutions (AANAPISISs), eligible agencies of the Federal Government, faith-based or community-based organizations, Hispanic-serving Institutions, Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Indian/Native American Tribal Governments (Other than Federally Recognized), regional organizations, Tribally Controlled Colleges and Universities (TCCUs), U.S. territories or possessions, and non-domestic (non-U.S.) components of U.S. organizations. However, non-domestic (non-U.S.) entities (foreign organizations) are not eligible to apply. Foreign components, as defined in the NIH Grants Policy Statement, are permitted. The funding instrument is a grant, categorized under health, with Assistance Listing number 93.859 for Biomedical Research and Research Training. Various applicant types are accepted, including for-profit organizations other than small businesses, nonprofits (with or without 501c3 status), state and local governments, federally recognized Native American tribal governments, and small businesses.
