This Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) invites applications for research focused on developing, improving, characterizing, and preserving animal models and related biological materials, technologies, and new approach methodologies (NAMs) pertinent to human health and disease. The initiative also supports projects aimed at enhancing the diagnosis and control of diseases that could impact animal studies in biomedical research. Projects must demonstrate broad applicability across multiple NIH Institutes or Centers (ICs) to align with the NIH-wide mission of the Office of Research Infrastructure Programs (ORIP). Proposed studies should involve animal models and investigate multiple body systems or disease categories. Applications focusing on a specific disease or primarily relevant to a single NIH IC will be deemed unacceptable. Eligibility is extended to various entities, including special district governments, county governments, nonprofits (with or without 501c3 status), public and Indian housing authorities, for-profit organizations (other than small businesses), small businesses, other Native American tribal organizations, private institutions of higher education, federally recognized Native American tribal governments, state governments, city or township governments, public and state institutions of higher education, and independent school districts. Non-domestic (non-U.S.) entities and non-domestic components of U.S. organizations are not eligible to apply.
