This funding opportunity encourages multidisciplinary investigators to develop and apply novel or innovative approaches for measuring brain activity, connectivity, genomics, or other aspects across the lifespan. The primary goal is to enhance the understanding of neurodevelopment and aging, including the origins of later health and disease, by improving repeated measures over extended periods to better predict future outcomes. Research can involve healthy human participants of all ages, specific clinical groups with cognitive, motor, or affective regulation challenges, and/or animal research. Studies may focus on longitudinal changes at any level, from genetics and single cells to connectomics and neural population activity patterns. This mechanism supports high-risk, high-reward ideas that may lack preliminary data or require additional validation. Eligibility is broad, including various serving institutions, federal agencies, faith-based organizations, tribal governments, non-U.S. entities, and for-profit organizations.
