Advancing Neural Circuitry Understanding of Mental Health Disorders Through Invasive Recording and Stimulation

This Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) encourages applications for invasive neural recording studies focused on mental health-relevant questions. The goal is to explore the neural circuitry and dynamics underlying moods, emotions, cognitive functions, and behaviors with high spatial and temporal resolution. The opportunity also allows for causal tests through stimulation via the same electrodes. This funding aims to address gaps in knowledge regarding neural circuit function related to mental health disorders, targeting specific questions with high translational potential. Development of new technologies and therapies are outside the scope of this NOFO. Eligible applicants include various institutions such as Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian Serving Institutions, Asian American Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institutions (AANAPISISs), Eligible Agencies of the Federal Government, Faith-based or Community-based Organizations, Hispanic-serving Institutions, Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Indian/Native American Tribal Governments (Other than Federally Recognized), Non-domestic (non-U.S.) Entities (Foreign Organizations), Regional Organizations, Tribally Controlled Colleges and Universities (TCCUs), and U.S. Territories or Possessions.
