The Department of Health and Human Services, through the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and in collaboration with the Coast Guard, is seeking applications for its Commercial Fishing Occupational Safety Training Project Grants (T03). This program aims to enhance the quality and availability of safety training for U.S. commercial fishermen. The grants will support the development and implementation of training programs that address the specific needs of fishermen, utilize qualified instructors, evaluate training effectiveness in reducing injuries, and coordinate with existing industry programs and partnerships. Eligible applicants include a wide range of organizations such as independent school districts, public housing authorities, Native American tribal organizations, faith-based or community-based organizations, regional organizations, bona fide agents, and Federally Funded Research and Development Centers (FFRDCs). The program emphasizes a 25% cost-sharing requirement and encourages innovative approaches to training delivery and content, with a focus on addressing regional differences and high-risk fisheries. Collaboration and partnerships are integral to the program's success, and applicants are encouraged to demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in their proposals.
