This Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) aims to utilize existing clinical research network infrastructure to conduct innovative, multisite, investigator-initiated clinical trials and observational studies. The focus is on research relevant to infants, children, women, pregnant and lactating women, and persons with disabilities. The NOFO employs a bi-phasic, milestone-driven mechanism (UG3/UH3), starting with a UG3 phase for setup and milestones, with eligible projects prioritized for transition to the UH3 phase for full enrollment and implementation. Applications must outline specific aims and milestones for both phases. The opportunity leverages the NICHD clinical research Network infrastructure as a platform for investigator-initiated hypotheses, requiring applications to be submitted in conjunction with the respective NICHD-supported Network Data Coordinating Center (DCC) or equivalent. Eligible applicants include various institutions and organizations such as state governments, independent school districts, for-profit organizations (other than small businesses), public and state institutions of higher education, federally recognized Native American tribal governments, small businesses, and nonprofits.
