This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites applications for the Fogarty Emerging Global Leader Award, which provides research support and protected time for early career research scientists from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). The award is intended for individuals holding junior faculty positions at LMIC academic or research institutions who propose research that does not involve leading an independent clinical trial. Applicants are permitted to propose research experience in a clinical trial led by a mentor or co-mentor. The goal of this program is to foster independently funded research careers in LMICs. Eligibility is restricted to non-domestic (non-U.S.) entities in LMICs, with specific exclusions for upper-middle-income countries that are also G20 members, excluding Sub-Saharan African countries. The funding supports health-related disciplines and requires a research project relevant to the health priorities of the applicant's country, under the mentorship of both LMIC and U.S. mentors.
