Description
The Bureau of Reclamation, through its WaterSMART program, is inviting eligible entities to submit proposals for projects focused on the planning, design, and/or construction of desalination facilities. These projects aim to increase water supply reliability by creating new sources of local water, diversifying water supply portfolios, and enhancing water management flexibility during shortages. Eligible applicants include states, tribes, municipalities, irrigation districts, and water districts located within specific Western states. Funding is available through cooperative agreements or grants, with federal funding covering up to 25% of total project costs, not exceeding $40 million for Category B applicants. Projects must have a completed feasibility study and align with state-approved plans or gubernatorial requests. The program prioritizes projects that are cost-effective, address environmental concerns, and leverage state funding or international expertise.
