Description
The Department of Health and Human Services is seeking applications for its Academic Research Enhancement Award (AREA) program. This initiative aims to support small-scale research projects at institutions that do not receive substantial funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). A primary focus of this award is to provide undergraduate students with valuable biomedical research experiences and to enhance the overall research environment at the applicant institutions. Eligible institutions must offer baccalaureate science degrees and have received no more than $6 million annually in NIH support over the last seven fiscal years. The award is open to various eligible applicants, including Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian Serving Institutions, Asian American Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institutions (AANAPISISs), Hispanic-serving Institutions, Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Tribally Controlled Colleges and Universities (TCCUs), and other institutions as detailed in the NOFO. Non-U.S. entities are not eligible to apply. The award ceiling is $375,000.
