This funding opportunity from the Department of Health and Human Services aims to support investigator-initiated, phase I clinical trials focused on diagnostic and therapeutic interventions for heart, lung, blood, and sleep (HLBS) disorders in both adults and children. The trials can be conducted at a single or multiple sites. Applicants are expected to be prepared to commence the clinical trial within the first quarter of the project period. Essential activities such as obtaining regulatory approvals (FDA, DSMB, IRB), securing drug supplies (and placebos, if applicable), and finalizing third-party agreements should be completed by the time of award. A companion NOFO utilizing an R61/R33 phased approach is available for those seeking support for trial readiness activities. This opportunity is open to various eligible applicants, including higher education institutions, local governments, non-profits, small businesses, and federally recognized Native American tribal governments. The grant supports research in cardiovascular diseases, lung diseases, sleep disorders, and blood diseases and resources.
