This Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) invites applications to utilize the NHLBI-funded TransOmics for Precision Medicine (TOPMed) program. The objective is to generate a substantial volume of integrated genetic and multi-omics data to aid in the discovery of the molecular mechanisms underlying Heart, Lung, Blood, and Sleep (HLBS) disorders. It is important to note that no funding will be provided directly under this NOFO. The generated genomic and associated phenotypic data will be made publicly available in a controlled-access database, such as the database for Genotypes and Phenotypes (dbGaP) and NHLBI's BioData Catalyst (BDC). The overarching goal is to advance beyond simply cataloging genetic associations to understanding how genetic factors contribute to HLBS diseases at the molecular and cellular levels. This initiative aims to transition TOPMed from genetic mapping to mechanistic understanding, with the potential application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) tool sets where feasible, thereby enabling functional genomics research that will accelerate the development of personalized medicine.
