The Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science, along with several other DOE offices, is soliciting applications for the Genesis Mission National Science and Technology Challenges. This initiative aims to accelerate scientific discovery and research and development (R&D) workflows by leveraging novel artificial intelligence (AI) models and frameworks. The goal is to achieve an AI advantage that will advance the DOE's mission in energy, environmental, and nuclear challenges, ultimately ensuring America's security and prosperity. Teams are encouraged to utilize the extensive scientific and data resources available through the DOE, National Laboratories, U.S. industry, and academia. The resulting AI models and workflows may be integrated into the American Science Cloud. This Request for Application (RFA) seeks applications for both Phase I (small teams) and Phase II (large teams) projects. The focus areas cover a broad spectrum of scientific and technological domains, including advanced manufacturing, biotechnology, critical materials, nuclear fission and fusion, quantum information science, semiconductors and microelectronics, discovery science, and energy. The program structure includes a phased approach, with Phase I focusing on demonstrating AI advantage and Phase II on pursuing promising directions identified in Phase I, with a significantly larger scope and budget.
