This opportunity, the NINDS Career Transition Award (K22), aims to support outstanding basic or clinical investigators in developing their independent research skills. The program is structured in two phases: an initial intramural appointment at the NIH, followed by a final period of support at an extramural institution. This award is specifically designed to facilitate the transition of NINDS intramural neurologist- and neurosurgeon-scientists to independent, academic faculty positions where they can engage in independently funded scientific research and clinical activities. Eligibility is broad, including various serving institutions such as Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian Serving Institutions, Asian American Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institutions (AANAPISISs), and Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). It also extends to eligible agencies of the Federal Government, faith-based or community-based organizations, and tribal governments. However, non-domestic (non-U.S.) entities and foreign components of U.S. organizations are not eligible to apply.
