Description
The National Science Foundation's Directorate for Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE) is soliciting proposals for its Expeditions in Computing program. This program supports ambitious, fundamental research agendas in computer and information science and engineering that aim to define the future of computing and information, with a forward-looking perspective of at least a decade and the potential for disruptive innovations. Projects are encouraged to foster collaboration within and across institutions to combine creative talents. Expeditions projects are among the largest investments made by CISE, with awards funded up to $15,000,000 for seven years. These awards are intended to complement other CISE-supported research areas by enabling concurrent advances in multiple fields. The program also offers Innovation Transition (InTrans) awards for teams nearing the end of their Expeditions to continue their long-term vision and objectives, potentially matching industry support. Eligibility is limited to institutions of higher education accredited in the U.S. with undergraduate, masters, and doctoral programs in computer and information science and engineering. Subawardees may include two- and four-year U.S. IHEs, and non-profit non-academic organizations. Other organizations such as national laboratories and for-profit entities may participate if they have independent sources of support, but will not be funded by NSF.
