This Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) supports students enrolled in dual-doctoral degree training programs (e.g., MD/PhD, DO/PhD, DDS/PhD, AuD/PhD, DVM/PhD) at institutions with NIH-funded institutional predoctoral training programs. The fellowship aims to enhance the integrated research and clinical training of promising predoctoral students who aspire to careers as physician-scientists. Candidates will propose an integrated research and clinical training plan and a dissertation research project in scientific health-related fields relevant to the missions of participating NIH Institutes and Centers. The fellowship experience is designed to significantly enhance the individual's potential to become a productive, independent physician-scientist. This NOFO is specifically for candidates proposing research that does not involve leading an independent clinical trial, but does allow for research experience in a clinical trial led by a sponsor or co-sponsor. Eligible applicants include public and state institutions of higher education, private institutions of higher education, nonprofits (with or without 501c3 status), for-profit organizations other than small businesses, small businesses, and other eligible entities. Foreign organizations are not eligible to apply, but foreign components of U.S. organizations are permitted. Funding categories include education, income security and social services, health, environment, and food and nutrition. Specific Assistance Listings covered by this NOFO include Minority Health and Health Disparities Research, Blood Diseases and Resources Research, Cancer Research Manpower, Environmental Health, Research Related to Deafness and Communication Disorders, Drug Use and Addiction Research Programs, and many others.
