Description
Hillsborough County is soliciting a contractor to rehabilitate the 100-year-old Columbus Drive swing bridge over the Hillsborough River. The work includes full removal and replacement of the existing coating system on the swing span; spot repair and recoating of machinery-area steel; truss-member repairs; installation of a new swing-span stop assembly; rehabilitation of live-load bearing assemblies; mechanical and structural coordination; testing; traffic maintenance; and related labor, materials, equipment, permits, and environmental controls. The coating work must address existing lead, cadmium, and chromium-containing coatings and include specified containment, surface preparation, and a four-coat replacement system. The contractor must maintain bridge operations and preventive maintenance through final acceptance, provide qualified bridge tenders, mechanics, electricians, and supervisory personnel, perform operational and functional testing, submit required shop drawings and quality-control documentation, and maintain traffic and navigational coordination. The contract documents specify a $70,000 allowance, a 180-day contract period from the written Notice to Proceed, and substantial and final completion milestones at 150 and 180 days, respectively. A 5% bid bond is required with the bid; performance and payment bonds are required from the successful bidder at 100% of the awarded contract amount.
