Description
This Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) from the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) is soliciting white papers for research, development, integration, test, and evaluation of technologies and techniques for airborne network connectivity and dissemination. The goal is to advance from current aerial layer network architectures to on-demand, self-forming, and self-healing networks, particularly in contested and degraded environments. The BAA seeks innovations in network monitoring and management, robust aerial networks, and proof-of-concept capabilities. Research areas include airborne network management and monitoring, robust airborne networking, and demonstrable aerial layer network technologies. The total funding is approximately $99.5M, with individual awards typically between $1M and $10M, although awards up to $49.5M are possible. The BAA is open until September 30, 2027, with suggested submission dates to align with projected funding. This is a two-step process, with white papers as the initial submission, and formal proposals by invitation only.
