Description
The Department of Health and Human Services, through the Center for Veterinary Medicine (CVM), is seeking applications for Animal and Veterinary Innovation Centers. These centers will form long-term partnerships to address priority research areas. Key areas include developing interventions to prevent, control, or eliminate Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) in animals and reduce its circulation in the ecosystem, as well as addressing other emerging zoonotic disease threats or One Health issues. Additionally, the program will support research into intentional genomic alterations in animals, focusing on advancements in regulatory science for agricultural resilience, food security, animal health, or public health. The initiative also aims to foster research for products for minor species, minor uses in major species, and other unmet veterinary medical needs that present significant animal or public health burdens. Eligibility is open to public and private institutions of higher education, including Hispanic-serving Institutions, Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Tribally Controlled Colleges and Universities (TCCUs), Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian Serving Institutions, and Asian American Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institutions (AANAPISIs). This is a discretionary funding opportunity for cooperative agreements, categorized under food and nutrition, agriculture, and consumer protection. The expected number of awards is 8, with an estimated total program funding of $3,000,000 and an award ceiling of $1,250,000.
