Description
The Army Research Office (ARO), part of the Department of Defense, is seeking proposals for its Staff Research Program. This initiative aims to enhance the professional competence of ARO scientific staff by engaging them in hands-on, basic research. This research will be conducted in collaboration with external institutions, focusing on advancing the state-of-the-art in various scientific fields including engineering, physical sciences, life sciences, and information sciences, provided there is an intersection with the interests of the participating institutions. It is crucial to maintain the integrity and objectivity of ARO's role in assessing and funding extramural research. Therefore, ARO Program Managers involved in staff research will be disqualified from taking official actions concerning the institutions where they conduct their research. The research will be managed by an ARO scientist in collaboration with a Principal Investigator (PI) from the institution. While ARO scientists will not be named as PIs, the results may lead to publications, co-authorship, and presentations at scientific forums, contributing to student education and training. Eligible applicants are institutions of higher education with demonstrated capabilities in mechanical sciences, mathematical sciences, electronics, computing science, physics, chemistry, life sciences, materials science, network science, and environmental sciences. Awards are anticipated to be in the form of cooperative agreements, with funding contingent upon appropriations and satisfactory performance. The program is open for proposals from June 3, 2025, through June 2, 2030.
