This Notice of Funding Opportunity from the Department of Health and Human Services seeks to advance translational research focused on understanding the emergence and worsening of mood and psychotic disorders, such as perimenopausal depression, generalized anxiety disorder, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia, during the menopause transition. The goal is to identify targets for novel treatment interventions by comprehending the underlying neurobiological and behavioral mechanisms. The opportunity encourages interdisciplinary collaboration on studies examining classic depressive symptoms in combination with menopause symptoms, the role of reproductive steroids, diagnosis of mood and psychosis symptoms at menopausal stages, investigation of co-occurring symptoms, and the influence of psychosocial factors. Review criteria will prioritize comprehensive neurobiology, mechanisms of action, and hypothesis-driven work. This grant is open to various eligible applicants including Native American Serving Institutions, Asian American Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institutions, Federal Government Agencies, Faith-based or Community-based Organizations, Hispanic-serving Institutions, Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Indian/Native American Tribal Governments, non-U.S. Entities, Regional Organizations, Tribally Controlled Colleges and Universities, and U.S. Territories.
