Description
The Department of Transportation, through the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), is soliciting applications for its Aviation Research Grants Program. This program aims to support innovative and advanced research that benefits the long-term growth of civil aviation and commercial space transportation. The program encourages basic and applied research across a wide spectrum of scientific and engineering disciplines, including physical, chemical, biological, medical, psychological, mathematical, and engineering sciences. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, Capacity and Air Traffic Control Technology, Communications, Navigation, and Surveillance, Aviation Weather, Airports, Aircraft Safety Technology, Human Factors and Aviation Medicine, and Systems Science/Operations Research. Eligibility is generally open to colleges, universities, and other non-profit research institutions with 501(c)(3) status. Awards can be grants or cooperative agreements, with substantial FAA involvement expected for cooperative agreements. The estimated funding available is approximately $6,000,000 per fiscal year, with individual award sizes ranging from several thousand to several million dollars over a period of 12 to 60 months.
