This Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) aims to provide ongoing support for established specific pathogen-free (SPF) macaque colonies that are crucial for Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)/Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) research. These colonies are essential for sustaining the availability of SPF macaques, which are free from certain viruses that could potentially confound research results or pose risks to animal care personnel. The macaques are genetically characterized for major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I types, as these genotypes significantly influence immune responses to Simian Immunodeficiency Virus (SIV) and HIV. Eligibility is restricted to domestic organizations, including public and state institutions of higher education. Foreign organizations and foreign components of U.S. organizations are not eligible to apply. Clinical trials are not permitted under this NOFO.
