This grant program supports exploratory and innovative neuroscience research projects aligned with the missions of the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) and the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH). Awards are intended for the early stages of projects that assess the feasibility of novel investigations, which may involve considerable risk but have the potential for significant breakthroughs in understanding neuroscience or developing new techniques, agents, methodologies, or models. While the grant accepts clinical trials, only applications proposing mechanistic clinical trials or basic experimental studies with humans (BESH) will be considered for funding. Various applicant types are eligible, including institutions of higher education, tribal governments, federal agencies, faith-based organizations, and for-profit organizations.
