Description
Public Works and Government Services Canada, on behalf of the Department of National Defence and Canadian Armed Forces, is seeking novel, integrated technologies that enable relocatable transportable camps to operate independently and sustainably in Arctic and sub-Arctic environments. Proposed solutions must combine water purification, wastewater treatment, and solid-waste reduction for camps of up to 50 personnel, comply with applicable Canadian environmental and drinking-water requirements, operate continuously in remote northern conditions down to -40°C, and reduce resupply volume and frequency by at least 75% from the stated baseline. Solutions must use modular components transportable by air or ship within standard 20-foot sea-container limits and allow on-site assembly without heavy-lift equipment. They must be maintainable with common trades and tools available to deployed Canadian Armed Forces personnel. Desired capabilities include integrated power, operation up to +40°C, elimination of manual solid-waste preprocessing, recovery and reuse of waste heat or by-products, and scalability for camps of more than 50 and up to 1,500 personnel. The challenge accepts proposals for technology readiness levels 1 through 9 under Components 1a, 1b, and 2, with maximum individual funding of CAD 250,000 for Component 1a, CAD 1,500,000 for Component 1b, and CAD 5,000,000 for Component 2.
