The National Park Service is planning a construction contract to rehabilitate the Effigy Mounds National Monument visitor center and redesign and repave the visitor parking and maintenance areas. Visitor-center work includes selective demolition, hazardous-materials removal, foundation and structural improvements, basement and main-floor remodeling, new HVAC and electrical systems, domestic water, fire alarm and fire suppression improvements, windows and doors, interior and exterior finishes, roofing, insulation, restroom relocation, elevator tuning, drainage systems, a building approach, and a visitor plaza. Parking and maintenance-area work includes vehicle and pedestrian circulation improvements, drainage improvements, curbs, gutters, sidewalks, asphalt paving, parking-island redesign, benches, picnic tables, and staff delivery circulation and parking improvements. The park will remain open during construction, requiring logistics and scheduling that minimize visitor impacts and protect the surrounding cultural landscape. The anticipated performance period is 450 calendar days, and bid, performance, and payment bonds are anticipated. A pre-proposal site visit is scheduled for October 21, 2026; the formal solicitation is anticipated in late October 2026.
