Los Alamos National Laboratory has developed a pseudorandom phase-encoding method for quantum sensors that enables accurate signal detection in noisy environments. By applying a maximum length sequence (m-sequence) to flip the sensor's phase by 180 degrees according to a designed pattern, the method uses correlation analysis to extract the intended signal while rejecting interference. This technology improves quantum sensor performance in outdoor and industrial settings, reduces false positives, and integrates into existing measurement protocols with minimal modification. It is compatible with various quantum sensing platforms, including magnetic and electromagnetic systems, and has been demonstrated using low field nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). Potential applications include subsurface imaging, quantum sensing near infrastructure, environmental monitoring, and detection systems requiring high confidence in distinguishing real signatures from noise.
