The Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC) is seeking to retain private and/or municipal firearms training facilities located throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to train, qualify, and certify new recruits in firearms and rifles. The program is a 56-hour program that includes 40 hours on the range and 16 hours in a classroom. The MPTC is responsible for training approximately 24,000 law enforcement officers. Every law enforcement officer in the Commonwealth is required to qualify annually in firearms and rifles to maintain their certificate. In addition to the firearms training listed above, the Police Reform Legislation requires all reserve/part - time officers in the Commonwealth to be trained to the equivalent of a full - time officer. Approximately 3,600 officers must 'bridge' to retain their certification. All 3,600 officers will be required to attend a 56 - hour firearms program that includes 40 hours on the range and 16 hours in a classroom.
