Description
This Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) from the Department of Health and Human Services aims to foster the creation of advanced brain stimulation devices for mental health treatment. Applications are encouraged for two primary areas: 1) the development of entirely novel brain stimulation devices, and 2) significant enhancements to existing FDA-approved or cleared devices through hardware or software improvements. Novel devices should explore techniques beyond current electrical or magnetic stimulation, focusing on increased spatiotemporal precision, multi-focal capabilities, and closed-loop approaches. Enhancement applications should concentrate on substantial improvements in spatial resolution, depth of delivery, and overall device precision. Incremental updates, such as simple software revisions, are not within the scope of this announcement. Various entities are eligible to apply, including but not limited to small businesses, state governments, non-profits, private and public institutions of higher education, and foreign organizations. The funding instrument is a grant, specifically under Assistance Listing 93.242 for Mental Health Research Grants.
