The Department of Energy, Office of Nuclear Energy (NE), is seeking to award multiple cooperative agreements to accredited United States two- and four-year colleges and universities. These institutions will receive and administer scholarship and fellowship funding through the University Nuclear Leadership Program (UNLP) for selected students. The program aims to attract qualified nuclear science and engineering students to nuclear energy professions by providing undergraduate scholarships and graduate fellowships. The scholarships and fellowships are focused on programs in science and engineering disciplines related to nuclear energy, including nuclear engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, chemistry, health physics, nuclear materials science, radiochemistry, applied nuclear physics, nuclear policy, radiation protection technology, nuclear power technology, nuclear maintenance technology, nuclear engineering technology, computer science, and cybersecurity. The program also supports training for nuclear energy-related technicians in areas such as nuclear operations, mechanical and electrical maintenance, and radiation protection. This initiative supports NE's mission to advance nuclear energy science and technology and its goals to keep existing U.S. nuclear reactors operating, deploy new reactors, secure the nuclear fuel cycle, and expand international nuclear energy cooperation. The program aims to enhance the R&D capabilities of U.S. institutions and fulfill the national demand for highly trained scientists and engineers in nuclear science and engineering.
