Description
The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets is seeking proposals for financial assistance through the Round 20 Farmland Protection Implementation Grants (FPIG) Program. This initiative aims to support local efforts in maintaining the economic viability of the state's agricultural industry and preserving agricultural land through the acquisition of perpetual conservation easements. The program is funded by the Environmental Protection Fund and the Clean Water, Clean Air, and Green Jobs Environmental Bond Act of 2022, with $67.0 million available. Awards will be made on a rolling basis until funds are exhausted. Eligible applicants include county agricultural and farmland protection boards, municipalities, not-for-profit conservation organizations, and soil and water conservation districts. Projects must focus on specific categories such as Access to Farmland, Agroforestry, Climate Resiliency, Equine, Field Crops, Food Security, Livestock or Livestock Products, Source Water Protection, Specialty Crops, Viable Agricultural Land - Other, or Vineyard, and must meet defined eligibility criteria for land use, size, and soil productivity. Maximum individual awards are capped at $3.0 million. The grant covers costs associated with the agricultural conservation easement, including the value of the easement, potential Preemptive Purchase Rights, incentive payments for certain categories, and eligible transaction costs such as appraisals, surveys, legal fees, and stewardship. Various cost-share options are available, requiring a local match contribution that can be cash or in-kind.
