This Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) from the Department of Health and Human Services supports pilot and preliminary research aimed at preparing for larger-scale services research effectiveness trials. The research should focus on interventions, practices, and policies designed to improve access to, and the quality, effectiveness, affordability, and utilization of treatments and related services for drug, tobacco, or alcohol use disorders. Additionally, the research may address services for comorbid medical and mental disorder conditions. This funding is intended for assessing the feasibility, acceptability, and utility of novel or commonly used approaches that lack an evidence base, as well as for general trial preparation activities. Various entities are eligible to apply, including but not limited to: Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian Serving Institutions, Asian American Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institutions (AANAPISISs), Eligible Agencies of the Federal Government, Faith-based or Community-based Organizations, Hispanic-serving Institutions, Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Indian/Native American Tribal Governments, Non-domestic (non-U.S.) Entities, Regional Organizations, Tribally Controlled Colleges and Universities (TCCUs), U.S. Territory or Possession, public and Indian housing authorities, state governments, nonprofits, private institutions of higher education, county governments, independent school districts, public and state institutions of higher education, small businesses, other Native American tribal organizations, and for-profit organizations other than small businesses.
