Description
The U.S. National Science Foundation's Archaeology Program is holding its annual Archaeometry competition, with a target closing date of December 1, 2026. This competition aims to fund projects in two primary categories: the development or refinement of anthropologically relevant archaeometric techniques, and the support of laboratories that provide essential services such as dating, trace element, isotopic, and dendrochronological analyses, as well as support for data archives that strengthen basic archaeological infrastructure. Proposals submitted to this competition will be evaluated by ad hoc reviewers and a panel of experts with combined archaeological and archaeometric expertise. Principal Investigators (PIs) and co-PIs must be researchers with a Ph.D. or equivalent education and experience, capable of conducting independent basic research. While PIs are encouraged to involve undergraduate and graduate students, they cannot serve as PI, co-PI, or senior personnel. Projects that apply standard archaeometric techniques to answer specific archaeological questions should be directed to the Archaeology Senior Research Awards competition instead.
