This Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) aims to support research on the effectiveness, implementation, and optimization of family navigation models designed to divert individuals with non-urgent mental health concerns from emergency departments. The models of interest should incorporate triage tools to assess mental health acuity, facilitate access to mental health services and necessary resources, and provide support and education to families while addressing barriers to seeking help. Eligible applicants include a wide range of institutions and organizations, such as Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian Serving Institutions, Asian American Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institutions (AANAPISISs), eligible agencies of the Federal Government, faith-based or community-based organizations, Hispanic-serving Institutions, Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Indian/Native American Tribal Governments (Other than Federally Recognized), regional organizations, Tribally Controlled Colleges and Universities (TCCUs), U.S. territories or possessions, and non-domestic (non-U.S.) entities (Foreign Organizations) are not eligible to apply. Non-domestic (non-U.S.) components of U.S. Organizations and foreign components are also not permitted. Applicant types include independent school districts, for-profit organizations other than small businesses, nonprofits (with or without 501c3 status), county governments, public and Indian housing authorities, federally recognized Native American tribal governments, special district governments, other Native American tribal organizations, private and public institutions of higher education, small businesses, state governments, and city or township governments. The funding instrument is a grant, categorized under health, specifically for Mental Health Research Grants (Assistance Listing 93.242).
