Description
The United Nations Development Programme is seeking a national individual consultant and team leader to support the “Mapping Mineral Supply Chains for Human Need” study and lead the “Malawi Mineral Value Chain Analysis” study. The work covers stakeholder identification, supply-chain mapping, field-based quantitative and qualitative data collection, interviews and focus groups, institutional and market analysis, and assessment of constraints and opportunities for local manufacturing, small and medium-sized enterprise participation, beneficiation, and domestic value addition. Study 2 focuses on gold, gemstones, fertilizer, and cement value chains, while Study 1 examines three selected mineral supply chains and mineral-based goods needed for human development. The consultant will prepare an inception report; conduct scoping, training, fieldwork, stakeholder engagement, and data management; lead multidisciplinary analysis; and author draft and final reports incorporating stakeholder feedback. The assignment is estimated at 100 working days, delivered across three field phases, with travel to various districts from a base in Lilongwe. Applicants must have an advanced degree in a relevant field, at least three years of natural-resource social research experience, at least five years of relevant national experience in small-scale mining or mineral supply chains, and demonstrated experience leading value-chain or natural-resource studies. Proposals require a technical proposal, signed interest and availability letter, CV with at least three references, financial proposal and cost breakdown, and a copy of the highest academic qualification certificate.
