The T-38 Program Office at Hill Air Force Base, Utah, is conducting market research to identify potential sources and commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) or non-developmental item (NDI) solutions for the replacement of obsolete, analog components within the Attitude Heading & Reference System (AHRS) of T-38A and AT-38B Talon aircraft. The fleet relies on legacy analog components for core AHRS functions, which suffer from high failure rates and are no longer repairable, negatively impacting aircraft availability and flight safety. The government seeks a form, fit, function, and interface (F3I) solution that requires no modifications to the aircraft, with a preference for components already stocklisted with a National Stock Number. Specific components to be replaced include the Attitude Gyro Control Assembly, Rate Switching Gyro, Rate Gyro Transmitter, Servo-Amplifier, Flight Director Computer, Magnetic Azimuth Detector, and other associated AHRS line-replaceable units. The replacement system must generate all required attitude, heading, and reference signals, interface with the existing Astronautics AFI4700 Roadrunner EFIS and legacy navigation systems, and withstand the T-38 flight envelope. Responses should be based on a notional quantity of 57 A-Kits plus 4 spares and 57 B-Kits plus 12 spares, and include a rough order of magnitude cost estimate and schedule timeline.
