Description
The Information Technology Division (ITD) is entering into a Master Services Agreement (MSA) and an Option to Acquire an Indefeasible Right to Use (IRU) with the Massachusetts Technology Park Corporation, which operates as the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative (MTC) through its Massachusetts Broadband Institute (MBI) component. MBI aims to deploy affordable broadband access across the Commonwealth and is constructing a fiber optic communications system serving western Massachusetts (MassBroadband 123). ITD will contribute $6.2 million to MassBroadband 123, which will serve as a platform for the Commonwealth's planned wide area network, MassNet. Under the MSA, MBI will provide wholesale broadband network services through MassBroadband 123 to Commonwealth Anchor Institutions (CAIs). The Commonwealth has also received an option to acquire an indefeasible right to use (IRU) for certain strands of dark fiber.
